Faction roleplaying thread
Twycross.
'The times are changing fast. Good that we are Ice Hellions.', Philippe Lienet thought. The Touman and the Castes would see change. Drastically.
Work and planning was already underway. The Scientists would not all die or be punished, but it would gut them. The Techs were going to be the most influential Caste now.. they had been a staple for the Ice Hellions since their inception and would be relied on even more now.. much to think on and much change. To survive, they had to change...
Twycross was an interesting world, although the storms were uncomforting to Philippe. But as the Falcon saKhan stayed on world, it would be protected enough. If not then Falcon stupidity would be their doom.
Black Jack
"The Flag is transferred, my Khan." The Star Admiral on board the "Eisfluch" exclaimed. Khan Raina Montose, accompanied by her saKhan Connor Rood, looked confident. "Very good. May this guide us to a brighter future but lets us memorize what our Way has already cost us." The new Flagship of the Clan was now the "Eisfluch". After the death of Star Admiral Tyler and the ilKhan on board the "Cage's Pride" the Flag had been carried by a Mjolnir that was conquered in the Battle of Sudeten but an inferior ship was definitely not what should be Flagship of a great Clan. This was now rectified.
Also, the next steps of the war were already in progress. While Raina had no doubts about the capabilities of her trusted Loremaster, Philippe's troops were not sufficient at all against the reported counterattack of Dracs and Terran scum. There would be needed a decisive force to deal with both. She would have to talk much again. To all the Clans in the area, and Snow Ravens of course would be a key player in this.. again. Their Navy was simply the thing that could stop the enemy.
While the pictures of the Battleship were transmitted to Hot Springs and Blackjack and back to the other Ice Hellion worlds, the troops made ready for another move.
And more Clans fell..
Philippe was close to desparation. 2 more Clans fell. And how! The Falcons robbed of their genetic legacies. The Mandrills picked apart in the Homeworlds and in the IS by different forces. Amy Lynn not talking anymore, did she knew that her Clan was dead? And he could do nothing. Nothing. The comparative weakness of the Ice Hellions was nearly unbearable. But the mothball fleet was at least proving to be worth all the pain. Atreus... nuclear weapons.. the perverse Mandrills there would die... with or without the help of the other Clans. In the Homeworlds, the Hellions still were strong despite sending their most troops to the IS, where there were weak. But what was to do when the Cobras finally were absorbed in the Star Adders and the Mandrills were dead? At least it seemed that the Beyl-Grants still had shreds of honor left, but Eld and Vik needed to be careful. It would be done. Two other Clans down. The Spirits were against the Dracs.. who knew what they could accomplish. At least the Falcons prepared for move again. It was about time. If they could beat back the incursion, then the Mandrills may have breathing room. The Vipers were a wild Card now. Pulling back in a tantrum, that did not bode well for relations. They could have taken Alyina.
He pulled at his hair in frustration, when his Coregn entered. "Sir? Philippe! The Falcon saKhan wants to see you. There is much to plan." He looked up. She was beautiful as ever and yet looked dangerous as she was. He smiled at her. An exquisite mix. "Thank you. I am on my way."
They were on their way.. but where would it lead them?

Greetings and Salutations,
Sudeten has taken from us, and then taken some more. The Terran Fleet will return and return soon. Other ships have been sighted headed to the Pentagon Worlds and the Kerensky Cluster itself. When the fighting ended on sudeten, several Clans had need for facilities to rebuild with and select clans were chosen to hold these facilities in trust so that rebuilding would go faster.
Now, we need a status report of the Clan Fleet. We can not make plans without knowing the situation. Please report back to me aboard the CSRS Snow Raven with the status of your repairs and where you recieved this assistance. There is no time for delay.

Clan Snow Raven
The next weeks and months would see further development for the Clan. In good or bad.
The Ice Hellions were at war. In normal times, Philippe would have been happy at the thought to stand in the Inner Sphere. However, things had changed dramatically. The Nova Cats, once betraying the Clans, had come back, realizing the folly of their old and supposedly senile Khans, but had brought disturbing news. The Not-Named Clan had infested Terra. Sacred Terra under the Heel of the Not-Named, thought annihilated. They controlled the most powerful and mightiest Army at this time. And they used it mercilessly.
And if that was not worse enough, Some Clans were entangled in a Scientist Cabal and unable to defend against it. 2 More Clans lost.. at least in big parts. Binding troops of other Clans and worse, getting their hands on the genes of Clans.. Ice Hellions themself would suffer over the betrayal of the Scientists but they would survive. They even had gained some intel from Strana Mechty as the Cabal tried to get off there. Fortunately only few had made it. However, it were dire times. Without any luck or upswing, it could spell doom for the Clans...
Fortunately, some Clans saw opportunities and could work together. The Ice Hellions were one of them.
Kooken's Pleasure Pit.
Both looked almost like a regular couple who wanted to enjoy the more exotic sides of intercourse, however, both looked physically quite in shape and the male radiated an aura of authority and wisdom. The big men that were in some meters following them looking twice as strong as the man added to the picture, though.
"Why would people pay for this?" the female asked him as she studied the vast amounts of pornographic Holodiscs. He could not really answer, although some of the pictures were quite interesting, it was just anatomy. They had seen the districts where people offered their bodies for money, however, at least the circumstances were overseen by the officials. It would remain that way.
What interested Philippe quite much, however, were the gambling places. He already had made some progress in his card playing skills. Very amusing. However, the Clan had let some of its wealth there. Not really much, but Philippe knew that all counted. He would be back, though. The world here flourished with tourism, still, and as it was Philippe's.. the Clan's the wealth would go to it's coffers. The Watch would have much to do to screen all the comers. And Philippe had to talk to the planetary governor, they would have to advertise that tourists still could travel here. And if they did not, they would reduce the populace and move them elsewhere for more productive uses...
they walked forth. Very interesting this here.
REGARDING OTHER CLANS (Loremaster's Journal newest entries)
Clan Blood Spirit
With the Cat's revelations, they have moved in for the kill. Attacking the Dragon alone raises questions I am unable to answer.
Clan Camel
The naming by Amy Lynn is puzzling, but at least they are no Fire Mandrills anymore. Let us hope the Clans can beat back the Inner Sphere Onslaught against them so they can contribute to the offense again.
Clan Cloud Cobra
Dead, mostly absorbed by stronger Clans, their Cloister System have served them badly. May other Clans learn about this.
Clan Diamond Shark
They have taken action. But they lack cooperation. This is a bad sign. I hope they start talking to others who could aid them soon.
Clan Fire Mandrill
They are dead to me. Steps are taken to kill the offenders of Atreus. Who would have thought such atrocities possible by them...
Clan Ghost Bear
Finally this traitor is gone, however, I am still waiting for the message of his death, and possibly the Reaving of his Bloodline. The Bear might have regained a sense of his legacy, but moves too slow for my liking.
Clan Goliath Scorpion
They have moved to the Inner Sphere. When it is obvious that they cannot protect their ancient home anymore, we will have to take up that duty.
Clan Hell's Horses
We fought together over Sudeten. And now they do their best to fight with other Clans. Let us hope they can stabilize after the loss of Ridderkerk.
Clan Jade Falcon
The thought of a Freeborn ilKhan disgusts me, but with them we have tasted a minor victory over the abomination and shown that we can beat them. Together. So far, the Clan has made good decisions strategically.
Clan Spirit/Nova Cat
They fought over Sudeten with us. If they keep this spirit up, we will support them. Their next moves make me wonder, though.
Clan Snow Raven
Without them, victory over Sudeten would have been impossible. That Bryn Cooper left our ilKhan and Flagship alone will need a close eye. Overall they are good organizers. We will see what happens next. But they stay on course and as far as I can see, they will stay at the forefront of the bitter war.
Clan Star Adder
We will see how long this inter-Clan union lasts. If we can stay together, it would help each of us.
Clan Steel Viper
Though we tried to hurt them, they seem to have no hard feelings against us. The Mandrill's despicable action in the Homeworlds threaten to unstable them. I hope they find back to the real front soon.
Clan Wolf
Ivan Kerensky does inspire his Warriors. The apparent deal with the Bears however clouds my opinion on him. However, perhaps now they contribute more to the common cause.
***************
Coyotes:
I hope they find peace. A glimmer of hope for their return and Refusal of their Abjuration is not enough, I fear. Their force will be missed.
Prowling the streets and less the landscape of Kooken's, Philippe did not forget what he was. Although this amusement by various "disciplines" was really entertaining, soon his whole body and mind itched for the campaign he had to do.
The planning was already set in motion, but what really pushed him back to attention was, when he was playing Drax in the premier gambling hall and got a call from his second in command.
The Home Worlds had sent a message to him as Watch Commander.
What would it be?
It hit him like an iron rod. That was glowing red. And was dipped in hydrochloric acid.
The original legacies of Koji Malthus and Adam Calbot. It drained the blood out of his face. Two of the original Warrior's giftakes and so much material to start a new legacy.
And let his fists clench in hatred for those stravag, chalcas bloodfoul scientists. The final phase of their eradication was underway, and he hoped his troops would kill them all! Soon, the Mandrills would be no more. However, what happened on Atreus would perhaps happen again. He wanted to kill a Mandrill, any Mandrill, right away, but knew it was impossible.
Two of the original Warrior's giftakes and so much material to start a new legacy.
He would report it to the Khans. They would decide if it was worth a deal with the Falcons or not.
As he approached the perimeter, he pointed at one Elemental. "YOU, sparring. NOW!" The big guy just shrugged and followed him, he was not scared. However, he would be after Philippe was done. His hatred would teach that Warrior some lessons in pain and how to avoid it... and relieve Philippe from his murderous thoughts.
The vacation was over.
Raina Montose was in a good mood. She found that inappropriate, however. The next months would see the Operations of her Clan at a new level, as if the past times had not been new enough. But what would it bring? Would it pull her Clan into the abyss, like other Clans before? Or would they make a breakthrough?
She did not know. Her saKhan was going into silence, whenever she spoke to him. They did not talk much. He was a bright person, however, brighter than her. But she could not stop to wonder if the late ilKhan somehow had made a change and that had affected him. Her mood darkened now. The loss of Sellen was one of the darkest days of the Clan. If not all Clans. She knew, she died in battle. But in space? For Mechwarriors space was the enemy.
However, the Bear saKhan seemed understanding. Would she lead her Clan to leadership of the Clans again? Or would she just flicker up like a candle in the wind, broken by the inner politics of that Dominion?
Time would tell. She had given Raina a ray of hope, though.
"My Khan?" The CommTech below her looked up: "We have a new message from the Homeworlds. I shall patch it through to you." She had snapped out of her thoughts and nodded. "Good, Hasan. Patch it through to my quarters, however. And then you may go to sleep. I know your shift has already ended since 10 minutes." "Thank you my Khan."
When she moved to her own quarter, she wondered if she became too soft to her underlings, or if she just grew into her role.
Deia, on board the "Eisfluch"
As the Dropships threw themselves against the planet, it was clear that the current occupiers would not stay. They would try to run past the blockade. Star Commodore Thea Hasbrin let her capital ships move to Nadir and Zenith, as well as moving closer to the planet to cut them off. Fighter Carriers moved to to other points where the Jump Ships could be expected.
It seemed the Dropships had not much of a chance. They tried to evade but had to stay on their course. As the Naval weapons hammered on them, Thea had a bitter taste in her mouth. Some Droppers had made it and fled. Deia was no secured. However, the personnell on the bridge seemed to celebrate and cheer. "Shut up! All of you! Those people were warriors. Their course of action might have been foolish, but nevertheless, no one should die like that. Do not rejoice at this slaughter! Keep in mind that they did not have bloodnames. They did not fight for a good thing, however, let us hope that we are not in their spot sometime."
Homeworlds, bridge of the "Thunderer"
Eld's mouth dried as he read the latest report of his watch. This could not be! This must not be. A foul taste filled his mouth.
He first thought about destroying this report, but of course this was nonsense. He prepared the security channel to the Command. Nothing of his former pride and arrogance was left in his face or mind.
This certainly marked the end of the Clans. Or not? Shaken, he swam to his Dropship to assault those worthless Monkeys. At least they would die.
Melissia, Dropship "North Scar"
The supreme Commander of the Invasion, Loremaster Philippe Lienet, pondered the political options. After the two Main Operations, the Hellions would likely be overstretched. If the Adders could beat back their invasions, there was hope, but overall it looked bleak.
He had talked to the Khans about trying to contact the Dark, remnants of the Jaguars, and while saKhan Rood completely dismissed this, Raina was not decided yet. However, looking over what transpired via the Media in the Suns, they seemed to be even more sick than the Jags back then.
So, he guessed that saKhan Connor Rood was right. There were limitations at how far he would let his Clan go. The coming battle would certainly be hard, but they would remain victorious. After that, however.. he did not know. He knew that another Clan would have to be slain, as soon as possible. The Clans as they had been known just 10 years ago, were doomed. They would have to transform into a new form of living in the Homeworlds and in the Inner Sphere. What Nicholas Kerensky would have thought, he mused..
He snapped out of his thoughts and prepared for the first phase of the Battle.
Morges
Khan's quarter
Khan and saKhan looked at each other. Not saying a word. This was the time that would change everything. Forever.
He looked at her, this massive woman. She seemed shaken. Of course after these news, he was as well. Were that tears hin her big eye? The other still in a cold blue of mechanical device.
"Connor, now I will have to transform the Caste. There is no other way." He did not say a word. He hated just the thought of it. "I will also have to tell the other Clans. If we can take them by surprise, perhaps we can win, without losing too much. I do not know. What I know is that we must take steps to ensure that this will never happen again to us. And you will support me, no matter what."
He snarled, but finally nodded. She was bright enough and he suspected her advisor was even brighter. Changes needed to be made as the Scientist Caste was merely of half strength now, with all high rankers dead or imprisoned, and others strictly under watch.
When he wanted to go, she made a strange move: she reached out her hand. He took it. She hugged him. He conceded. She was certainly unsure, but somehow it calmed his mood, having her clutch him like that. Was he that weak?
Finally she let loose and he went away. He would have to support her of course, but perhaps he could modify the changes to a lessen the shock? The Clan above all, he thought with dark mood.
Inside her quarter, Raina prepared a short outline of her ideas. Philippe and Connor would have to check it later and fine tune it. That was, if Philippe had survived Melissia. She hoped so.
Khan Raina was onboard her Flagship. The news were satisfying. Melissia had been conquered. The 1st Genyosha put to flight. That was rather unexpected. The loss of the Cold Hunter and Jango Morris and also the 45th Cluster was.. horrible. Overral losses were mounting. How could they make up for that?
Anyway, for now, one big change in the system was ready for delivery.
She prepared to record her message, the CommTech, one of her most trusted assistants, signed her the OK. Looking straight into the device, she started:
"Fellow Clanspeople.
Clan Ice Hellion was victorious the last months, however, this war is just starting. I have not forgotten the shocking event that lead to the destruction of the Fire Mandrills nor have I forgotten what they did on Atreus. Also, in our midst, a poison had spread, one I hope we have by now overcome.
The Scientist caste is hereby regarded as nonexistent. A change to the Tech Caste is made as follows:
Tech Caste is divided into several subcastes now, still represented by one MasterTech to the Clan Command:
BattleTechs = Working closely with the Warrior Caste (as usual Techs), able to train basically, pilot Mechs/fighters (for transfer etc.) in emergency, salvaging while fights still active (danger of death in the field)
MedTechs = as before. Basic combat training possible (danger of death in the field), when working within the Touman.
ScienTechs = like former Scientists. Under watchful eye when dealing with Genes and critical projects. Scientechs taken from the former scientist caste shall be watched by the Techs already within the Caste.
KeeperTechs = Needed for the upkeep of the breeding program.
Also, all Castes have now to choose one of them who acts as a keeper at our respective repositories. The Keeper for the main repository is to be chosen by all Castes. Caste Leaders are not allowed to be voted.
These changes might sound shocking to you, but it is a step in the right direction for our evolvement. The War in the Inner Sphere is needed and just, but it goes against all rules our Great Founder has laid out for us. We must adapt to not go down against our enemies. There will likely be more changes, some minor, some more impacting.
Treat those former Scientists with respect, who were freed of guilt, others keep under your supervision. The real offenders have met their fate.
I ask of you to continue in your great work and commitment for our Clan. We are strong, we are proud, we are Clan Ice Hellion. With you, we cannot fail."
She nodded in respect to her Castepeople.
"I greet you as your Khan."
This would circulate within the Clan for quite some time. And in fact, the people already had reached great successes, it was said that since the Golden Century, the growth now was unparalleled. But the threats the Clan if not all Clans faced was also beyond any expectations.
Esteros, until recently an unassuming world, not really much on the interstellar political radar, that is until it was first suddenly put on the front line of the current Clan-Inner Sphere War, becoming another casualty to the advancing Clan Juggernaut, falling to Clan Ice Hellion.
On the whole not much had changed, yeah the lives of the citizenry was a bit more organized and regimented, but other than that they went about their daily routine much as before.
Today though it was about to have a surprise visitor, and while the Techs were on the alert for any incursion, the announcement made by the force that arrived was not at all what they expected.
Multiple sensors picked up the forming Jump Point signatures just seconds before several Ships materialized at the Nadir point, and as the vessels stabilized themselves, a radio transmission was broadcast on multiple channels. IFF signals indicated them as Lyran in origin, but the few satellites with video capability quickly zeroed in and caught the image of a hastily painted serpent along the length of most of the JumpShips. Two words were emblazoned above the snake For Charlamagne.
"Attention Esteros Control, this is Lieutenant Colonel Kinkaid Josephs of the 367th Lyran, hmm, I guess that really don't apply any more," the voice comments, "no matter, 367th Lyran Independent Aerospace Regiment accompanied by the 499th Lyran Independent Aerospace Regiment late of Arc-Royal."
"Not sure if you've heard, but the Lyran Commonwealth is shattered, and well we heard that one of your fellow Clansmen, a Charlamagne Steiner of," his voice softens, as if he's speaking to someone else, "what Clan is Charlie part of." he asks.
Another voice, muffled by some distance from the comm station replies, "something Adder, Star I think."
"Clan Star Adder has thrown his name in the ring for the title of Archon. We'd be mighty grateful if you wouldn't blow us into so much junk, and perhaps point us along in the direction that we can reach Charlie. We've decided that someone different can't do us any worse than those that we're familiar with and would like to become part of his Lyran Faction."
"And you may want to give a heads up to some of your other Clan friends, they also may be getting similar requests if the scuttlebutt is accurate. We aint the only ones that are willing to call Charlie our Archon.
Following the broadcast is a full documentation of the composition of the 367th and 499th Lyran Independent Aerospace Regiments.
The combined forces of the 367th and 499th amount to 28.5 FP of ASF. Their transports are standard JumpShips, and listed as their transport arm, with appropriate number of DropShips, all converted to carry ASFs and required supplies.
(ooc: each Unit moving 2 hexes, using 0 MPs (that's what the Order Sheet tells me) to reach Esteros, which has been calculated on Orders, just getting some of the movement details and RP out of the way)
CommTech Castor's mouth dried when he had received the data. That was a huge group there.. that must be hundreds of fighters! He called the Star Captain of the watch.
Roy was in his sleep when the watching Star Captain had called him. Something must have happened!
He ran to the next intercom and then moved quickly to the HQ. When he had replayed the message, he was slightly calming down.
"It seems they just want to move through. No immediate action." He called for Star Commodore Bianca Kanter, the 7th Aerospace Commander. Her screen would not be sufficient. She agreed with doing nothing, but when they came from Arc-Royal.. that could mean it would be an easier target..
Finally a message was sent: "Colonel Kincaid, this is Star Colonel Roy. We will not disturb you while you recharge. You may proceed to your target. Star Colonel Roy out." After some seconds another message was sent by the same: "I will give you a good advice: If you want to stay on good terms with Clansmen, do not use contractions the way you are."
Below was a still wondering Staff of Hellion personnel, but they would be even more irritated when they received new orders from Command.
If the groups were still there a week later an advertising went on air on the planet, seemingly produced for other Hellion planets too. It seemed to aim at the populace to tell them that prisoners of higher caliber would be shipped to the Independent worlds. Others would be given a choice. Also people who were discontent with the Clan rule.
Not only the Hellions on planet wondered about that but few did not see the logic of giving away expensive unproductives and lessening the population of criminal elements or malcontents.
So far, those Hellions did not seem that bad, though.
Mississauga Zenith
"Eisfluch"
Raina had reviewed most of the reports that kept flowing in, despite the problems of having no functional HPGs on the newly aquired worlds. She would blow up those HPGs herself if she had to rely on Not-Named personnel to run it. It would be overcome. The Hellions had overcome much more difficult times.
Planning was underway for the next steps. With the crumbling of the Lyrans and the Adders having grotesquely a Steiner of their own and so many people desperate to even acknowledge him, the pressure on the other worlds would grow. It seemed that Lyran units were defecting en masse even through Clan systems. Astonishing. Yet, it could get more problematic as the remaining defenders could become even more desperate. The last battles had been to the last man, which was wasteful. Further reinforcements by the Terran scum or their lackeys notwithstanding, of course. With the growth of the territories, Raina had thought about expanding their forces and of course Philippe had proposed the idea of looking for autochton people to defend themselves. The Adders had executed that to some success, and if the new warriors were loyal, there was few that spoke against it. The irritating Blood Spirits aside, they would smell betrayal in every new direction, but with Clans dying left and right, that was no more Raina's concern. Survival was hers.
She gave green light for those first units. They would rank in like Omega Galaxy, perhaps lower and no one should expect them to appear besides Front Line units. With the expatriation of malcontents after the offer of that Kowlon UIW, the integration of the new worlds would go forth.
HQ of the Loremaster
Melissia, Europa
"I have a new one," proclaimed Philippe Lienet. Despite getting some gray hair, he seemed relaxed and fit to his gathering of officers. He had made a habit to crack newly learned jokes before each of their meetings, testing his ability of delivering a pointe. It was quite irritating to most of the attendants, to say the least. It seemed that he deliberately ruined any joke and besides, most were Spheroid ones with topics alien to the Clans. The following would show that again. Philippe harrumped and started with a sheepish grin:
Wife : You always carry my photo in your handbag to the office. Why ?
Hubby : When there is a problem, no matter how impossible, I look at your picture and the problem disappears.
Wife: You see, how miraculous and powerful I am for you?
Hubby: Yes, I see your picture and say to myself, "What other problem can there be greater than this one?"
Still grinning, he looked at his puzzled attendants faces. Most were not getting it at all. But it was a topic of discussion after any meeting, when it became less formal again.
Of course, relationships were not common to those warriors, but to stay with a problematic woman at all? That was just nonsense.
As nobody laughed, Phillippe's grin died a slow death and he opened the Star Map for all along with the data that was of interest. Much change had come since the Adders had presented their coup. It would ease the "western" theater decisively. Those new independent worlds, obviously under protection by the Adders were no threat to the Hellions. But the biggest hindrance to security of their worlds lies still before them. It was time to move against it.
The Star Colonels and Galaxy Commander Hawkins were now at attantion again, at least they understood what this was about..
"Galaxy Commander Damon Hawkins, I have reviewed your reports and ROMs of your training. It seems that the 2nd Assault is now officially classified as Veterans again. That is formidable." Hawkins nodded at his superior: "I will add that Star Colonel Josephine Lienet did a formidable work in guiding them and whipping them into shape." Philippe added: "I can only encourage the others here to get their act together and become higher rated."
"On another topic: the Khan has now finally approved the creation of Volunteer units to garrison our Inner Sphere Planets." Into the murmur of the gathered officers he explained further: "They are handpicked, willing and screened by our Watch and are indeed members of the Warrior Caste. They will unlikely take part in offensive operations and shall stay on their home planets. For our Gouvernors and Inquisitors, this has already proven to be of use and so far they have proven their worth. For the most part, not much will change for them anyway, as is the case with former "police" who are now part of the Warrior Caste as well. I expect that you treat those volunteer Warriors with the respect they deserve. Yes, they are freeborn and yes, they did not have the same level of training like we do, but their training they will keep is to be valued high enough compared to the Lyrans and adequate for their duty."
He waited for the murmuring to subside. "Also, the jails are in the process of being emptied of hardened criminals who were sentenced to more than 5 years of prison. The UIW will receive shipment of them, thus reducing our need to guard those dezgra scum. Malcontents have been given the choice to join them, although I think they should be transported separately. It will increase our hold on our worlds and it is likely that the people will appreciate this move." He gestured for comments, which were spoken about as well. The Path was clear, they would soon be on the move again.
Hot Springs
14. September 3069
Hot Springs and its Capital, Boulder, with it, was booming. The populace saw much infrastructure built by the Ice Hellions, besides a gigantic HPG Hub also Factories and even a massive Shipyard. Most of it was obviously for military reasons, but the big Hub would make messages to other planets now nearly as easy, albeit somewhat more costly, as a planetary phone call. This was unheard of for this place, despite people coming here from all over the Inner Sphere.
This has changed, sadly due to the fact that Clans are there and the House Lords prevent civilians from visiting Hot Springs due to their petty interests (and the Ice Hellions due to security concerns, mostly). However, the Hellion Worlds now could send many civilians to Hot Springs' springs and the Institute for Advanced Studies in Physical Therapy which had been neglected since the Clans were invading. Now it shines anew and cares for the exhausted and severed.
Of course, all visitors have to be screened at the space port of their Worlds and here as well, but this is definitely worth it. Thanks to the improved Communications, they can spread the word faster about what is available here. Thus, even other Clans may send people to relax.
Warriors may eventually see the benefit of healthcare in their spare time as well, and the newly trained volunteers might be the first Ice Hellion Warriors to go there regularly. They now are trusted with protection here and one of them, Heinz Fuhrmann, once assistant defense director for the planetary Command with considerable power and connections to other planets and commander of a battalion of Infantrymen has successfully tested in, swearing his loyalty to the new Overlords. And he has just received a message by one of his old friend from Melissia. This might be wrong, but will help the Clan. At least he hopes they see it like this. He just has received orders to weed out criminals for shipping to Arluna, thus losing much of the rabble that plagues most societies.
Even less populated worlds like Hot Springs have their share of offenders and even really evil ones. Thus, he sees some wisdom in it, and despite having some doubts, he starts to select and asking around at the prisons for useable ones. That will make quite some JumpShip loads, he estimates. And if his old friend really can cut a deal like that and is not killed for it by the High Command, then he advances the Clan as a whole, likely strengthening the defense of its planets with easier to maintain, and more robust warmaterial.
So, he puts his new Clan before his own. At least that is his way of thinking. He hopes his friend knows what he is doing.
Raina had had a tough day. Securing the newly acquired planet could be interesting, but it also could be a test of patience and energy.
Santana was certainly important, but still, politics were not much her thing. They had now a new governor who seemed competent enough and the battlefield had been cleaned.
Other news were not that good, however. Morges had fallen to Scum League Forces, it was whispered that another fleet was with them. And the Militia had fought to the best of their abilities. Perhaps more. However, that put all offensive plans at risk.
Morges had to be retaken, else it would risk the entire zone. In the Homeworlds, several Clans had taken up trials against the Wolves, Shadow had been a success, the Star Colonel there would receive a commendation. His anti-air tactics might prove valuable here as well, but it had been a trial, so then this might not mean much.
Eden however had been a shameful loss. She didn't know why she was upset, sending freeborns it was the estimated outcome against trueborns. Even if they only were Wolves.
She needed some training. Even if she grew older, she had to stay in shape, else she could not defend her position. And with the increasing problems here and there, that would be critical. How long would Connor stay calm? Or others? If she issued more orders that some might find unclanlike?
A grin appeared on her face. Even if Connor would win over her, the duty he would inherit might prove too much. And if he failed then, the Clan would suffer. Thus, she had to stay strong. Any less Warrior would fail. Fail the Clan. That must never be.
Melissia
06. Oct. 3069
Most of the birds had landed and went through the quarantine procedure as they had been in contact with Arluna, the center of the plague. No one could want this to spread. Anywhere.
Star Commander Lester (Strickland) had been desinfected and would have some spare time.
He knew where he would go. The "Raging Stallion" would do. There were rumours that even the Loremaster had visited it and tried some jokes on the old and rugged Barkeeper, oddly enough, but Lester would just visit an old friend. Although first he would get into civil attire.
He found, the Clan System was not nearly as bad as the Prop had said. But then, he was quite flexible, adapt at Combat and skilled at what he did. So perhaps it was just that he could test into the Warrior Caste? He had to admit, should he ever take a wife and get children, they would not need to risk their lives, other than a civilian Job, that is. Accidents happened still. Screw it, he should be more alert now.
Entering the small, but tidy bar, he already saw him. He got himself a drink, a PPC and a tea would do, better only naranjijuice and tea, and perhaps a good steak. Better than the crappy stuff them Clanners called "rations". Slowly and with a smirk he went to the desk where a customer sat.
"G'day Mista. How are you?" The other, somewhat older man nodded. "How are you. I see you are back. Have a seat."
Lester sat in front of him and sipped his juice. "Yeah, not much has happened. That Star Cap seems ta have had a hunting trip. Came back quite injured. It's rumoured that there are giant pigs and stuff running around. He took one down with a spear. Pretty tough." The other raised an eyebrow. "Is that so. Well, sounds like fun. Do you have something of a souvenir for me?"
"Nah, I wasn't with the hunting party. Sorry Bill." The other one frowned. Les found it hilarious. He continued. "Oh, uh.. " tapping on his front pockets. "I think I have it in my uniform.." Now Bill seemed pissed and Les couldn't help but grin. He took out a piece of paper with a Datachip and handed it over. It was too good an opportunity to pass. "Bill grabbed it eagerly but the displeasure was showing as he growled. "Idiot."
Lester ignored it. "So, how did it go here? Any news on the war?"
Bill was still grumpy but after buying him a beer, he started to talk some news.
When Bill was in his appartment, after a security check and his test in he was allowed to stay, it was good to be Militia based and part of the government, he could read the message.
And this was good. '10 companies. That's no small thing.' He would have to get this working ASAP. It would get him killed if they found out, if not, well, the planet would have some more defense. After his wife had divorced him, he did not cling to his life that much. But he would take it as it came. He was Warrior after all.
Loremaster's Cabin,
Philippe sat in his G-Chair, and read through various reports. Most were alright, nothing special.
But there, the first transport to Arluna. Star Captain Ezra. Aha. Had made good contact with the government, and went hunting??
Interested, Philippe immersed himself in the well-written report. Attachments were also available. That Ezra seemed competent, despite being only Marine of 3rd tier.
Hm. Genetic tampering. He took down a 1-ton Boar? Hard to believe if he would not know that he was a Warrior. But the genestuff was certainly unchill.
As Loremaster, he would assign some more resources to it.
And having an ilChi would not be harmful.. He would have to think about it. Groaning, he took the risk to stand up in G flight, and moved. Perhaps Coupling could clear his mind?
Or he could also ask his Coregn.. before or after? Did not matter. He would advance the Clan and its relations.
Loremaster's Cabin, Eisfluch

The reports went in. Progress was made. The SibKos, once instituted by Asa Taney and his predecessors were now paying off. The Clan could now draw on them. The problem of too few Warriors would now be much less, especially when some voices advocated increased buildup of freeborn troops, which of course was a major point for the Clan Council. But the industry was not really suited to the task. At least the first Warship was now built since the Eisfluch. A Fredasa, but it was a start. The loss of the Cage's Pride would still mark a wound for at least several years, if not more. But what could they do. They would need the help of Lum or Sudeten to put such a ship together, however, needing help of others was not favored by the Khans. Philippe had much less qualms about it, but he was different anyway.
The next steps of the Clan would mark its path. Glory was to be gained, hopefully, or it could cripple them, even without enemies stabbing at their back. They all would be accounted for, though. No one messes with the Ice Hellion.
He sighed. Perhaps he should try to read the Remembrance?
Star Captain Zig's verse had been the latest addition to the poem. Freeborns seemed to be able of extraordinary deeds, perhaps more Clusters of them would help, indeed?
But for the Wolves, the last verses would soon be written. What would Kerensky think of those traitors?
Homeworlds
Kerensky Cluster
Eden
It was time. Armed personnel went into the Center and started lining up the Wolf-Raisers and The Eden Wolves were calmed by their trainers.
Now the end was coming. All were offered to join the Ice Hellion Clan immediately, or else. There was no debate. It went over smoothly.
The special Exclave of the Wolves was no more. The Wolves would not be harmed, but Clan Command had seen fit to remove this stain. The time of the Wolves was over.
An aged face looked from the screens and Holos into the crowds of the Clan's holdings.
"Greetings, citizens. I am Senior Master Chief Worker Letitia Bosch leader of our great Clan's Worker Caste. I have good news for you: Our proud Clan and Clan Star Adder reached an agreement to improve several Planets' infrastructure. This includes a HPG Beta Class and substantial improvements of infrastructure, example being an upsized Dropport with the supporting structures. The first planet for this, and thus coming into the fold of Clan Ice Hellion, is Machida. When Zhongshan was liberated by forces of both Clans, Machida was sidelined and had to survive mostly on its own. This will change now. Life will improve there like it has for all the Worlds Clan Ice Hellion has liberated and will liberate. We will keep you informed of that progress.
Likewise, the despicable terrorists of ComStar and Word of Blake, unable to provide service for you have sabotaged the HPGs on any newly liberated world. This caused interdictions for the respective Planets, the Clan tried to ease via its Warships. However, these hardships are soon to be over and once again you will be able to send your messages in even better quality to your families or friends within the Clan Zones.
Remember, only you can make your life better. Volunteers are always welcome. Join the biggest and greatest family of all, Clan Ice Hellion. The Pack is stronger than anyone alone, and much stronger than our enemies combined." A smile ended the message.
Subtitles were sent with it in German, Hindi, Italian and some other languages.
Mississauga
19. December 3069
Several weeks there had been propaganda for the new HPG, now it was nearly done. The people would have now the change to get news quickly and get out Messages to their kin or friends abroad.
The final opening of the new HPG Compound, far away from the old and sabotaged, that was now marred with Graffiti and decay, would become a spectacle. Much like a Volksfest. (people party) The Capitol of Mississauga Maine was bursting with activity for this, and although the policemen had enough on their hands, it was mostly peaceful activity.
Mississauga would not disappear from the interstellar map again. Not if the paw of the Ice Hellion watched over it.

Coventry, route to Nadir
DropShip "Intensity"
In his cabin sat a grumpy mooded Loremaster. Coventry did not go as he had hoped. But certainly he should not be surprised. What did some Successor State lackeys know of Trials and honor? Nothing. But his Star Captain had certainly fought well. The Regulans too, even as he had clipped their wings as he isolated a few Mechs of them on one flank, they fought back valiantly. However, it was clear they were outclassed until they called in the rest of their unit. The whole unit! This proved they did not bid at all. Of course, lately most Clans dealing with dishonorable or even Clan opposition did much the same. That this was against the spirit of the law seemed not to bother anyone anymore. He sighed deeply, even as the thrust of the Dropship pushed him into the seat. Were the Clans to go extinct? The Bears had adapted to a mixed state, some Elements of their heritage still in place while democratic elements had been put into place to form a society that had the Warriors on top, still. But for how long would that go well? Despite their strength, they were vulnerable for pressure.
The Lyrans had been under pressure since the Katherine led second Assault on the Falcons that bound many Clans together.
As more and more Clans gathered to bite out of them, finally someone destroyed Tharkad and their Archon. This shattered this big realm finally. When even the Star Adders, a most progressive Clan, for sure, gained a portion of this realm, something seemed rotten at the core of this realm. Perhaps of all realms? Somehow, Philippe doubted that the Dracs would have fallen this way, but who knew? They were plagued from within by those Black Dragons historically, but so far had kept them quiet. And thus, could grow stronger even more shown in their renewed commitment on the Lyran front.
Philippe had hoped that Coventry would have ended with a victory, it could have triggered him to try to calm down both sides. Adders and FWL, who had a mighty fleet, were entangled in an increasingly bloody war. Starting with Coventry, and a stupid Trial for the Adder Mjölnir. Coventry they had accepted, the Mjölnir they did not give. And now were seemingly trialing the FWL for their ships? It was just nonsense and bled them dry. The FWL had unengaged assets and struck Adder Worlds at will. Why could Stanislov not see this? He was certain that Raina had already offered mediation or at least would prod him to step back a bit.
A message was coming on? Sudeten had been an outstanding success for the saKhan. Of course. His military prowess was unmatched. But what would happen if Raina went away from Khanship, eventually? Philippe wondered. As Connor was more conservative, what would he do? No doubt, the Clan had changed heavily, but stayed quite successful, compared to others. But where would they stand without that bloody, stravag Scientist Cabal?
Once again he swore at these offenders. How was that possible? Was their greed for power that badly contained? But he vowed that such thing would not happen again.
Considering his old punching bag, the Coyotes, he wished they would be around. In light of the Spirit Cats revelations, they certainly would invoke Surkai, where only their higher-ups really were involved, and then smash into the lines of the Terrans, no doubt. Their heavy machines would do great harm to the terrible enemy.
He felt old. So much change had happened over eight years. Mostly for the worst. For how long would one recognize that there were Clans? The Coyotes were abjured, but could they not be called more Clan than the real Traitors of Scorpions, Cobras and Wolves? And those that rather hid in the shadow of the Homeworlds, could they be called Clan? Could the Hellions be called Clan? Right now, certainly, despite destroying an infected Caste. But what would happen with them in the Inner Sphere? Would they become corrupted? Certainly Philippe would do all he could to prevent that, but.. as he liked much of the Inner Sphere's differences, was he already one of those?
'Do not allow yourself doubts.' He commanded himself. The path was set. If possible, strengthen the others with coworking, but preserve the Clan's power and life. The time to strike the Terrans drew closer, if the Clan was not on its peak, then it could likely mark the start of the end of the Clan. If not all. Who knew what the Terrans were capable of? Nuclear Warfare and Orbital destruction, obviously. Perhaps more? The UIW had suffered under an engineered plague. Would this come too? He refused to think that to the end.
When he finally fell asleep that day, his mood had not bettered.

Drop Ship "Intensity"
With Coventry still nagging on him, Philippe had calmed down since then, however this new Journey was not to his liking either.
But at least there was time to work off the "Paper"-trails. A humongous task indeed. But there was no denying that it was vital to any Warmachine.
Requests, plans, Reinforcements, Weapons, Bloodrights... weapons? That was no request, it was a Data Package from the Senior Chief Tech!
Quickly opening, he was greeted by his trusted Caste Leader. He spoke to him about a weapon that would be most welcome by the Warriors. Some ScienTechs were responsible for this and had worked with Techs for this since quite a while. He commended them for it. Then it came to the specs. Interesting. It would help the Touman, Philippe thought. Then came some Design Modifications and their Trial runs, some proposals for Omni Configurations and a final overview of weaknesses and strengths for it.
Philippe typed his message back, the distances were too far to get it working otherwise.
The Warriors would be pleased, although his Mech would not need modifications about it.
Next topic, the 1st Flurry petitioned Reinforcements, not yet..
He sighed. Rose was great at her job, but the Clan was strapped for Material. All flowed to allies, the Watch or to build new units. Also rebuilding damages.
A new message catched his attention: Elissa??
Reading it, he was between sadness and activity and hastily typed a response. It could mark an upswing in every way for the Ice Hellion. Even more he wished to escape the blackness surrounding him and have access to real people to talk to. It had shown that he liked that.
Elissa, you have done well.
I have no doubt that the Ravens would have given more if their first offer had not been agreed on. However, considering the circumstances, you did good. Liaison Teams are already underway at full speed to assess the situation and to prepare integration. It will be not easy, knowing the mindset of the Fire Mandrill, neé Camels, but given our history and the unfortunate but inevitable movement of Amy and 1st Galaxy as well as the Klines, you will be easy to integrate. If nothing else, the action you will see on the fronts will keep you and your Warriors occupied enough. And if it helps, rest assured that the Khan is granting you a long leash, so to speak.
The loss of Victoria Lynn to the Adders is unfortunate, but it cannot be rectified. The other "defections" are good with us, I hope you can keep some ties with them, the Spirits may hopefully see through their stubbornness and may talk again, at least that is my hope. Those Warriors may hopefully serve as a means of communication with them, in whatever regard.
What is quite unfortunate however, is that your forces lack full strength. I had hoped the long time since Antares or the worse engagements with the Terran Scum had given you opportunity to repair and get to full speed. In any case, it is good that you provided us with this detailed data.
A special liaison team is already underway to New Caledonia to secure the databases of your Clan, lest they fall in the hands of undeserving. I would not care if the Ravens got them, they have most of the blueprints already, I assume, but I do not trust the Bears. I do not know what happened to Athena Kabrinski, but I fear for the worst. If we must wish that the Ravens can keep them loyal, that is a very thin veil of hope.
Resources are also moving your way to make use of what you provide, to get you back on track and to what you can do best. Rest assured, your legacies will not become extinct.
Philippe.
Raina sat in the dark. It was still some days until ferrying over to the transport from the "Eisfluch" which she had visited for planning sessions. She had headache. Considering she had a big head and also an implant for an eye, the headache was big as well. What would the next month bring? She could make the biggest advance for her Clan in history, however, she could also lead her Clan into the biggest defeat in history, since the bloody civil war that left barely a Galaxy or two.
Now, she was not concerned about her own death, if she had the chance to go to ground, she would lead her forces as natural. If Connor was up to the challenge of being Khan however, that would be the question.
So far she was the leader and she was unsure. Of course, the Watch and recon would hopefully reveal what awaited them so they would not stumple in completely blind, but doubts remained.
A shell of a Clan would be like inviting the predators. 'Come on.' It would not be that bad, the important part was the navy. On the ground, there was still considerable power in the Homeworlds and even here.
She grabbed her head. It was just a terrible task to lead a Clan. She wondered how Sellen accomplished this until becoming ilKhan. She had a natural flow around her and all went to her pleasing. Raina had seen no problems with Sellen back then. Was natural beauty part of the concept? Elementals were rarely that attractive to the majority of Warriors and even within the Elementals, Raina knew she was among the .. unattractives. Not that she would have no coupling partners, but still. Perhaps Mechwarriors were indeed the natural choice for leading, being a blend of all the genetics had accomplished.
Slowly she stood up, workout was needed. Even with headache, it would help. She knew it.
Thankfully, a GravDeck was available.

To: Khan Raina Montose, Clan Ice Hellion
Khan Montose,
Your clan's attacks on worlds in the Skye region that have declared for the CLP is in clear violation of our cease-fire. You were advised of this development and this outrageous action is nothing but a stain on your clan's honor. I demand an explanation for your blatant violation of our agreement. I had believed that the word of the Children of Kerensky was worth more than that of the conniving Successor Lords - the fact that our agreement was breached after two months is an impressive achievement. I had not thought it possible, but if your actions are as they appear, the opposite may, in fact, be true.
Yours,
Tanuyama

A vid is transmitted throughout the vast Ice Hellion holdings.
The Khan speaks again. She looks older and more worn, but a certain pride is in her eyes which makes her left eye shine. Even if her face is still not likely to draw much breath.
"My People. In the last months, a new, decisive development within the Clan known as Camel came to the surface. This Clan ceased to exist, knowing that alone they could not survive. Most of this Clan's Elements approached their old ally, our Clan Ice Hellion to bid for shelter. We approved and welcomed them into our midst. Now we are stronger than ever, materially and spiritually as we have inherited not only many of their units but also their holdings and genetic legacies. We will defend them with our lives. Currently, joint operations are already underway and they will accomplish their goals.
However, this inheriting of most of a Clan also brings to the fore a problem: You know that our Scientists were guilty of high treason and were brought to justice for it. Now, we inherit a Scientist caste of their own. Naturally heavy investigations are on the way to find out if they have anything to do with that horrible betrayal that befell several Clans, even if the Camels already have weeded out many of their Scientists.
But still, I will not disgrace our new brethren with the same harsh measure of justice I did to us. As such, the Scientist Caste will now be reinstated. Note that this will have to prove its worth. All former Scientists who behaved without any negative record are to augment our new brethren in their caste. Determination of fitness will be done by their superiors.
Do not get this wrong, our strengthened Tech Caste achieved stellar performances and even technological breakthroughs in the meantime. For this I commend all of you. If we can keep this level of cooperation and achievement for the time being, I have no fear for us. Our Clan will become stronger and stronger and will survive these dire times." She smiled at the camera.
"I thank you all. May Kerensky gaze fall upon us and take pride in us."
Worker Sven was nervous. Of course, he had earned this privilege but all the people looking at him. 'Concentrate on your task.' ChiefTech Klemens was hopefully nearing the end of his speach, about the subject of the day, why Sven was here and the deeds of Sven, out of which he was chosen to be here. He had worked hard his entire life, with dedication and somehow his boss had nominated him. Then the higher-ups agreed with that and now he was on Shipyard H-1 Beta, looking via Trivid Cameras and through thick Ferro Glass onto the "Lightning Bolt" that was just being finished by the Workers and Techs out there. It was an impressive ship. And built by his own Clan alone, no less. Despite his nervousness, he had to smile proudly. Part of this success was his work.
"And now, Worker Sven, you may release the ship." Some cheers erupted out of the mass of visitors when he ceremonially and slowly grabbed for the single button that would start the release process. A Tech had been honored with christening that ship when it was half ready, other Workers already had this privilege with the many Scout Ships the Clan had built, but this here was the first true Warship the Clan had built. He pressed the button suppressing his shaking.
The Clamps were removed and ever so slowly the Ship manoeuvered out of dock. Some last checks were to be made but no one could doubt the perfection of it.
Now the crowd cheered loudly and repeatedly, partly at him, mostly at the ship. The Trivids covered the event for the other Clanmembers.
Inner Sphere
Onboard the Eisfluch
Khan's quarters
"My Khan, the "Lightning Bolt" is preparing for her first flight. She is out of dock.", the Admiral proclaimed. She nodded at the small. Connor was there as well as was Loremaster Lienet. The small Admiral continued: "I also am proud to declare the Naval forces at hundred percent. However, the replacements not included." "Thank you, Thea. It is good to know. However, the ground forces are still lacking many Warriors and equipment, we must address this as soon as possible, especially as we are attacking the Arc Royalists. With them in our sides we cannot advance further without risking our gains in the back."
Philippe spoke up: "To address this, my Khan, I propose more Volunteers units to free the forces of the Flurries and others to strike into the AR. So far those units have been a success and I do not see how it would change." Connor shook his head. "No, increase the Touman by another Front Line Galaxy, that is all we need. I am in place to smash the AR right now. They have no chance."
Philippe countered: "Unproven Warriors, saKhan? At least increase the Volunteers to one Galaxy, buff up the Zeta Prime some more, especially in the light of the newest stupidity of the Spirits, they worry me more than the AR right now."
The Khan nodded. "More Units, aye. I share your worries about the Homeworlds. If they cannot get rest, our actions here will be jeopardized. First, quiet those worlds, then take down the Scientists. When we have done that, the Lyrans will fall once and for all, freeing the path to the Terran scum. The others shall care about the Scorps. I will look into the sibkos and the stream of reinforcements if there is room for new units, by now, however, keep yours together and minimize losses. I do not like what the Falcons are doing with their Robert."
They nodded and thought about this issue for a while as the talks went on.
Onboard the "Intensity"
Philippe had his meeting with the Khans and all was plotted for the future. It was not sure what the Falcons were really up to, but it would be dealt with. One way or another. The Adders and Vipers were another matter. As long as they went along, no problem, in the case of the Adders at least, they thought and moved again, manifest with the deal about land swaps and Tech he had struck with them.
Then there were the Spirit Cats. If they really did what Philippe thought they would, well that would make them huge. Already the taking of the Capital of the Star Leagues Chief was a stunning feat. One that would not have been possible without the FWL's help, of course but alone the logistics involved were far beyond his or his Clan's capability.
The three worlds beneath Star's End, however, would need to find a solution with the Hellions. Either take them or preferably deal for them. The Cats were short on manufacturing power, he knew, so this could be the key.
But then, the Hellions were expanding their industry to all new levels but the future projects demanded it so. The second liners would have to be bolstered, not only in light of the Spirits or Scientists, but even to cope with the expanded holdings and to protect what was built.
And then there was the rebuilding of the Naval Stars. The "Cage's Pride" had to be built as a Flagship. Perhaps even 2 McKennas? Then the losses in the last battles. One destroyer and perhaps a Battlecruiser. The cost in men and material for this was mind-boggling and could only be seen as a long-term projects. He estimated 3 years at least. Then there was the reactivation of almost all bloodlines. Hard fights would be needed to get that done. And with this, the increase of fresh blood that wanted to the higher levels. Given the nature of these Warriors, he did not know for how long he or the Khans could hold. Even Connor, unbeatable in this time, would get older. A sentiment he would fight a Grievance against, Philippe thought amusedly.
Raina could have some years, she was still a great Warrior. At least the Watch was now up to what was needed.
Now to the League. Despite Coventry, advances had been made. And the League needed help. Alienating most IS powers when your communication depended on them, was risky. But the Hellions would provide it. And perhaps, even a deal for Warships could be done? He would have to send a message again.

Morges 3070, 04.12.
"Springbock"-Stadion
The game was pretty close compared to all those before where the 90th Striker Irregulars had defeated the Morges Lions with ease. Today it was the 45th minute and the Lions were close with 45: 40. It was soon that Beta Galaxy and the Ice Hellions would move against the Arc-Royals, so they might be distracted somehow. Anyway, the Lion's tactics had improved to cope with the Hellion Warriors. They even had "bought" two new trainers from other Beta Clusters to help them. And it paid off. However, the next minutes would decide the match. If the Hellions would make another successful attack, the game was decided. Brent, himself not much smaller than the Elementals against him with 2.05 meters and well built was distressed. His opponent, Warrior Andrew had tackled him so many times and he was in rage. The last maul was just seconds ago and the game would go on soon, but what did Brent do? He moved forward and punched Andrew in the head? The big Warrior shrugged it off and answered, however, this allowed the Irregulars to go forward as the referees did not call it off, which catched the Lions on the wrong foot, obviously. While the two big men brawled, for Andrew in a quite mannered way, which he would decide for him with an armlock, the Hellion onslaught could not be stopped. And soon it was over. The Hellions were unbeaten in 12 games. But it had been close at last.
***
Several months later, the first worlds of the former Arc Royal Defensive Cordon, later becoming the core of the CLP, were falling. Arc Royal would follow. The Ice Hellions would fight alongside their Allies the Jade Falcons and the Robert Loyalists against fanatic opposition, eventually overcoming them with their proficiency, power and skill.
Loremaster's Cabin
3070
Another bunch of reports. Just seven years ago, he would have never thought of wasting so much time on data and paperwork alone. But, alas, this was his job. The Khans, even though he was helping them, were not much better off.
Really doubtable that any sane Warrior knowing this would apply for this position. Perhaps all the gloryseeking Warriors would be calmed over time? He could not imagine someone like Asa in such a powerful position. It should be forbidden for his manner had destroyed so much in fits of rage and blustering.
Anyway, back to the reports. Another bunch of Recon Ships were nearing completion with the Admirals demanding more. Always more. Sure, it was a definite advantage for the Clan and they were affordable enough, but more important to him was the keel laying of the Cage's Pride II. This was an expensive thing but nevertheless, much needed.
nd while he was at the naval things, the new Theta Galaxy Clusters reported combat readiness. His head could not get around those numbers of Elementals, thousands of them each. It spoke for the Clans's power that the sibkos were that massive. And they were still expanded. However, even so, and increasing part were freeborns to help fill the slots. Of course they would always be inferior to true Elementals and could only pilot light and Medium Suits, but for Space Ops they might be most suited, if not more than the bulkier Elemental breed. Many ships still had small gangways and the smaller the Marine, the better they could manoeuvre. At least that was his argumentation when it came to deciding the influx of freeborns even into the Elemental Arm.
Freeborns were now nearly everywhere. While Zeta Prime still was their own realm, the most talented were found in recognizeable numbers on the Front liners. And it was good. Tensions were still there, but with holding Planets in the Inner Sphere there was no way around Freeborns in the Touman.
Ah, yes, the Volunteers. There were enough even after strong filtering that were available to serve there. But it would cost resources as well. He would have to look into that. Perhaps the UIW would have something? The FWL, even? Construction crews were only waiting the final sealing of a deal that would send them to those worlds building HPGs.
Another issue was the Mjölnir. But well, might as well keep it as it is an excellent design.
Then there was R+D. Interesting stuff. Could very much help the Clan in the endeavour of keeping others at bay. But they needed to expand their Infrastructure. More holdings, more resources. The Arc-Royal Worlds would be taken with or without any interference. He would deal with it.
The Khan was finally moving back to the Homeworlds for a time to have an eye on the development and to supervise the first Ops of 5th and 6th Marine Clusters. As an Elemental it would certainly spur on those Warriors that their Khan was watching them.
And it was a dicey mission as well. The last two Wolf-Traitor Stations out there would become either Ice Hellion or interstellar dust, but as the 2nd Coming had been spotted just a bit spinward of Wolf Orbital 82, one Cluster could ran afoul of them.
Hopefully, the Bloodfoul traitors had moved on.
And then there was the thought of grouping the Fredasas into a single naval Star. With the "Instigator" coming up, there were five now. Their deployment mode would not change much, but their organization would change for a bit. The Independents were not up to date anymore. The name would have to be snappy however, to depict the independent nature of their Captains.. Frost Bite perhaps, or Whirlwind? He would leave that to others.
The Oaxaca and Star of India could merge into the Hunting Wolf Star, thus leaving only the Transports without a binding structure. Hmmm... he mused. A new Potemkin would help fill in the always strained logistics that happened when a Clan was either in the Homeworlds and in the Inner Sphere. However, the cost... Talks to the Admirals were definitely in order, the Naval Part would play an increasing role in the future. And perhaps one time it was not out of the question that an Admiral or Commodore would become Khan...
But not before Connor was Khan.
Thinking of which, both Keshiks demanded their Aerospace Arms repaired if not expanded, while Delta still needed a start on theirs. His own Gamma finally had theirs and that was good. Omega Prime was pleading for their full complement of Clusters.
If he was a Spheroid, then he would have sweared. What was that? 'Goddammit!' or something like that. He stayed with 'Freebirth!', though. The Merchants he would have to talk to, then the Worker. Those people had worked and continued to work so hard for the Clan. It was tough to find something they would appreciate and which could spur them on to work even more without slowly destroying them. No doubt, the Clan had expanded in all dimensions but to cope with the growths there was things missing on all ends. And he had to think of this. Last day, his coregn had noticed the first grey hair on him. It shook him to a certain extend but not much. He was somehow beyond worrying about his age now. It still mattered as long as he would be a Warrior, lest he could not stay in his position.
His eyes burned and he went to rest. He needed rest so much.
