Hisashi Ichikawa's stomach was in knots, but he never allowed it to show physically. The Director of the Draconis Combine's Internal Security Forces was dreading the meeting that was scheduled between the Coordinator and the senior Warlord of the Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery. The spymaster's job often gave him headaches and sleepless nights. But he was always able to deal with it with stoic resolve. But when he had to attend meetings just between the two highest ranking men the the Combine, he felt panic. He still recalled the events that led to the animosity between the two. Twenty years ago, the Black Dragons, backed by the iyashii Word of Blake, assassinated most of the Draconis Combine's High Command, and attempted a coup d'etat. Their attacks were highly effective, and their plan nearly succeeded. A simple accident kept one member of the High Command from being present when the attacks occurred. He was enough.
Ichikawa chuckled as he remembered Andre Takeda as he argued with the doctor treating him that he needed to be somewhat mobile. Working with Takeda as they created a whole new chain-of-command and ad-hoc government while defeating the rebellious forces, all the while Takeda was in a hospital bed. The amount of respect Ichikawa gained for Takeda did not keep him from fully investigating the Warlord, to ensure he was not responsible. That file would eventually cause the riff that could rip the Combine apart...

"Even for one of your heritage, those words are treason. Why should I not cut you down where you stand?"
"Because, Tai-Sho, it affronts your honor to take orders from Victor Steiner-Davion's son and only your sense of loyalty to the combine is preventing you from cutting your own stomache."
"Hmph"
"That was not a particularly harsh reproach, Tai-sho-dono."
"Your words are true... but as much as he is a Davion mongrel, he is also the Coordinator. As you have said, giri comes before my personal feelings."
"Aff- forgive me, old habits die hard, yes, I agree that the Coordinator must be the Coordinator, regardless of his bloodline. That does not mean the Coordinator is competent to make decisions of state, or that it would be inappropriate to appoint a Shogun to protect the interests of the combine."
"You truly walk a fine line between wisdom and blackest treason; however, I will listen. Tell me your plan."
