3 was your Pirate Point Inserion, you took the damage, and failed the Raid Transit.

Failed Raid transit means you post your naval force and go after him, 1 round of battle.

Do I still need to do a raid defense roll to determine my defending force strength, or can I throw a couple of Death Stars at him?

Raginar, because we rolled for init (and you said you were leaving), because you won initiative, that means you bug out before the defenders can catch you.  So no combat occurs.  cheers
