General Discussion / Re: Battletech-Mercenaries
September 02, 2015, 07:43:58 AM
I'd love to have you in Parm!

Let's talk characters!

I'd (if Fatebringer does not call dibs on it) play the ASF pilot (given the fact that we got two ASF on our Union).
If you want to do that, Fate, I'd be as happy with a BA trooper :)

And I'm considering to make the character a (former) clanner (Nova Cat that is)

thoughts?

INN Terra Service announcement / outage warning for C* services

Ladies and Gentlemen

C* has just a service outage / interdiction warning for the entire Free Worlds League.
The message as it reads:

"The Comstar service might see a total outage for an undetermined period for the entire FWL.
This means that not only will Free Worlds League nation personell and military will be unable to send and recieve messages, but also foreign citicens or secret service members will be prohibited from sending messages.

This outage will begin in 72 hours and an end of the outage is not forseeable.

INN Terra
C* broadcast
Statement by the Primus

With the arrival of the clans Comstar declares a state of emergency rising the C* tax to 10% for all participating nations using the HPG network.
Furthermore C* will move troops to the Terran System from all over the Inner Sphere and demands travel rights for all worlds in the path. This is especially important for the Federated Commonwealth, the Capellan Confederation and the FreeWorldsLeague.

Last: Comstar will prime all HPG stations on all worlds with explosives to detonate them if the Clans take the world.
A one mile security zone is advised!

A man pushed onto the podium, shoving aside the Primus
"Ladies and gentlemen! Please! Calm down! I would kindly ask you to cut all footage of the last two minutes. This is clearly not the official position that Comstar wants to take!"
shouts from the assembled reporters arose
"For this sake my personel will now collect your cameras, notepads and so on."
he nodded to a guard and doors swung open letting in more personel in ROM uniforms
"Please comply. We wish not to talk about this any further. Also thank you for coming today. This press conference is over now."
The ROM Agents moved in on the reporters, determined to collect all possible evidence of the... outubrst...

"Both got what they deserved for their defiance against the Holy Order. Comstar has long enough played the peaceful dwellers on Terran soil.
We are the only hope to steer the InnerSphere trough the coming turmoil that will be caused by the Clans wreaking Havoc in the Inner Sphere.
They are not coming any more, they have arrived! Message reached me from Canopus that they are starting their Invasions as we speak.
But as foretold in ancient texts, Comstar will be there for the Inner Sphere because.."
He sported a strange melody while speaking on:
"You are all our children
You children are born of Sin.
We all are born of Sin
That is why we must let
The light of Toyama, the light of Blake
Into our hearts my children.
You are all children of Blake
But to him you are sinners
We are Sinners
We must let the light, the love of Toyama
The wisdom of his words into our hearts.
Or you will burn
Burn in Hell
Birn in Eternal Slavery and Damnation!"

he had tears in his eyes but spoke on normally

"We had offered our help against the clans and the Houses of the Inner Spere rejected it."
directly at the camera now
"Now we will see the Houses burn with only the Light of Terra remaining!
This is your test, Mankind! Will you find Blakes words and fill your heart with light?
Or will you die in the darkness of Space?
Come to Terra, you who are willing to stand alongside the Order in this times, Come and join the Holy Order.
Or burn on Atreus, Sian, New Avalon, New Samarkand and all those stars in between!"

back at the reporter again

"You ask why they had to die? Because they were filthy scum! Just as you all are!
Submit to the holy order, or face darkness. You have 72 Hours to submit your nations government to the Holy Order.... Or face the breakdown of all communication."

Back at the camera

"Terra does not need the Inner Sphere to stop the clans. The Inner Sphere needs Terra to stop them.
And we will stop them. Be it on any world near the Periphery... or on Terra itself!"

The man stared with an rage-ridden red face into the stunned crowd of reporters...

He narrowed his eyes
"We upheld service in the Federated commonwealth. We returned the hostages that were kept save in our custody. What else does the Federated Commonwealth want? An apology? I do not see any need for this. As for Outreach and Northwind: It was time someone took care of those..."

New Avalon

It was a nice day on New Avalon. People were minding their business, stroling in the parks, picknicking and do other leisure things.
Noone minded the Man in a dark green uniform, not showing any unit or rank marks who was carrying a strange looking box in his hands.
He was walking slowly looking at the masses having fun while himself being completely detached from his surroundings.

The man directly walked towards the Davion palace, crossing the city by foot and really taking his time for this endeavour.

It was close to sunset when he finally reached his destination and the sun was in a bright golden with some brass mixed into it, hanging right above the palace.
He looked up, smiled and walked to the guard.
"Dear Warrent Officer. Would you be so kind and deliver this box to either Justin Allard or Duke and Regent William (dunno the name right now) - Davion? This is an ordered item delivered by the order-code BH-351/e3#3042|A."

The guard looked puzzled

"Look up the code in your system. You will be directly forwarded to at least Mr. Allard. Anyhow. I did all I had to do. Thank you gentleman. And if you will, resist the urge to look into the box. The content is rather... gory."

With that he tipped his hat, turned, and walked off.

The guard looked up the code and whistled when he saw the note 'do bring directly to Justin Allard'....

OOC: Inside the box is one head of Grissom Miller and a 'mission completed' note as well as a bank account number

"While I am not informed on their exact current status, they will be released with the negotiated Prisoner exchange program and be handed over to the Combine within the next 48 hours on Dieron.
The Draconis combine had insisted on the exchange of all prisoners, so they were included."

"We are currently looking into the situation but nothing is decided as of yet. The Comguards are a, as time has shown, necessary contribution to Comstars assets in this Galaxy. We might even look at expanding them in the future.

So yes, the Taxes will keep existing and might even see some fluctuation in the near future

INN Terra

Leadership Change Announcement
A very busty woman holding a microphone is showing, standing on the beaches of Hilton-head Island:

"INN Terra is gladly announcing that there is a change of leadership happening right now on HiltonHead, Terra.
The first circuit has been conferring for over seventy-two hours now, trying to find a new path for the not so well running war against the Federated Commonwealth and the Draconis Combine.

Reports from the Titan scenario show that the Draconis combine forces were able to hold off an all-out infantry assault onto the Titan yards and still control the vast and sprawling shipyard array.

We heard rumors from several HPG messages that were sent off into the currently interdicted HPG grid of the Draconis combine and the same, reliable sources also rumor that there might have even been HPG messages coming FROM the Capitol of New Samarkand to Terra.

Anna-Nicole Smith reporting for INN"

+++++ UPDATE +++++

"As we have just heard, the Inner Circuit has finished conferring and is about to give a press conference.... Which is starting right about now... we will switch to that in an instant!"

switch to a conference room with the large Sword and Nova Symbol of Comstar in the background.
A man in his fourties approached the board:
"Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, Inner Sphere.
My name, as some of you might know, is William Blane, Primus William Blane to be precise. I was called to Terra to help steer this ship through troubled waters and will, effective immediately, act as fourteenth Primus of the holy order.

Primus AD Myndo Waterly will return to her family home on Kuzuu in the Draconis Combine and remove herself from politics.
She has asked me to express her deepest gratitude for all the cooperation with the peoples of the Inner Sphere, her respect to the leaders and citicens of Comstar and the wish to be respected in her decision to return to growing Tea, choosing a life of solitude.

About the ongoing war, well there will be a change of course. I can not go into details but I have a different vision of what Commstar will do and how the Holy order will redefine its role in the Inner Sphere.

I will now answer up to six questions. Feel free to ask."

Free worlds Navy develops ist own jewel.
INN Atreus

It was not worth a press release, or would it have been but none was issued?
Be it as it may, but the Illium Shipyards Skunk Works Team, often dubbed the ISST has quietly and privately developed a prototype for a warship... and as it seems, completely on their own.
They call it the Zec and it looks very much like this:

The pictures our investigative reporters were able to shoot from the secret launch of the first ship, just two weeks ago make pretty clear that it is fully able to move on high – G speeds and also seems to be able to use its jump drive, as a source from Illium space customs explains:

"The Zec moved around in the system for three days and then jumped to an undisclosed location, announcing its jump procedure like 15 minutes before jumping..."

Is this the first new warship of the Inner Sphere?
Was it built privately by the FWL Naval Research?

We will find out!

Tharkad City, The Triad
Tharkad, Federated Commonwealth
October 1st, 3041
0230 Local Time

The muffled cough of a suppressed weapon was barely audible over the sound of the wind blowing through the leaves of the trees that lined the broad avenues of the Triad complex. Infantrymen wearing the uniforms of the 1st Royal Guards patrolled the grounds, but here and there, a handful of them lay on the ground, their bodies unmoving, their radios already in the hands of men recruited from among the peoples of the former Commonwealth. Reporting in as usual, the Kapitan in charge of security for the Triad was satisfied nothing was amiss. He thought that right up until, 30 seconds after his hourly check-in, a wire garotte wound its way around his neck, and severed it all the way to his spinal cord. The other 4 officers in the security room died at almost the exact same instant, from knives and broken necks.

Men in stealth gear stole through the night, unseen and unheard by the vast majority of the security forces. Those that did caught glimpses of only shadows before swiftly being put down by expert marksmen and silenced weapons, or a well-thrown blade. It took the interlopers only 15 minutes to make their way, along with their special gear, to a very important elevator shaft. Another team was busy man-handling a very large container into a nearby office building, already cleared of personnel by the advance team.

20 minutes later...

The control room was secure, the technicians and their guards all dead. The aggressors were not trained nuclear reactor technicians, but then they didn't really have to be. They had a disk, which they inserted into the control room computer. One of the techs had been on their payroll and had removed the safety interlocks and disabled the emergency shut-down sequences. He had died as well, his usefulness at an end(and operators such as these left no witnesses). Within 40 seconds, the code on the disk had gone about its work, altering safety limits, altering flow patterns, disabling safety features, and doing other things which nobody in the control room could've explained. Their work done, they locked down the computers from outside access, and sealed all the doors shut with welds and booby-traps, in case by some miracle, someone stumbled upon what was happening and tried to stop it.

They left the same way they came in, their rearguard team reporting no hostile contact while the assault team was below. They ex-filtrated as planned, catching hover cars to take them away from the Triad. They caught a sub-orbital hopper away from Tharkad City, landing in a relatively uninhabited section of wilderness. The teams placed their thermite charges at the important points of the hopper, on all identifying serial numbers, and especially the air frame's 'black box' recorder. After their dropship reached an altitude of 2km, they detonated the charges, destroying the evidence of their egress from the Triad.

It was about this time that the reactor core, having been in a critical red line state for almost 4 minutes, reached critical meltdown temperatures. It was also at this time, as unchecked radiation was saturating the lower levels of the Triad's reactor complex, that the almost 3 dozen 15Kg pentaglycerine charges detonated throughout the subterranean complex and above, weakening the sub levels and causing a huge sector of the complex to sag as its supports were damaged.

In almost the exact moment the reactor went critical and began an uncontrollable chain reaction, the prepared Killer Whale warhead(packed with additional pentaglycerine around the primary charge) detonated, finally overwhelming the structural supports of the reactor complex, and sending a massive plume of irradiated material several hundred meters into the air. Because the weapon was placed on the 6th floor of the officer building, and considering the already weakened state of the sub-levels, the resulting massive air burst, and huge amount of radioactive material being thrown up from the reactor meltdown, the effect was very much like a nuclear bombing going off, directly in the heart of the Lyran half of the state.

everyone - this is too big to do via PM and too big to hide IC anyway - so we will do this openly in this thread please! :)

QuoteLadies and Gentlemen of all the assembled Houses and whoever else can receive this message,

By now you should already have some indication that Comstar has more than turned against us, they have betrayed us. They have flimsily denied their actions on Northwind which cannot be ignored. When the Highlanders stood up against them, they bravely tried to unite us with their declaration of an Inner Sphere Defense Force and revealed a secret they have long held dear, the existence of the venerable Black Watch hidden among their ranks, the Honor Guard for the Star Lord of the now defunct Star League.

I as Chancellor of the Capellan Confederation ordered over a dozen regiments, naval aid and support units to the front lines to assist them in the name of the ISDF.  Our house of scions signed off on the largest aid package in the history of the Confederation and I know other houses sent them their support as well. We built massive bunkers to protect their families, that is, before the planet of Northwind was blasted to rubble from space and every man woman and child hunted down like dogs by the ComGuard.

The sudden revelation that Comstar had at its disposal massive troops and naval forces directed at seizing the core region of the galaxy has of now effectively ended the fighting between us. The catalyst for their actions appears to lie in their numerous secrets. I could only fathom at what else they wished to hide besides what happened to the forces that Alexander Kerensky took with him when he and the SLDF disappeared.

Our latest reports indicated doubts as to where the League's loyalties lie. They have questioned why we are fighting Comstar. Now they have the answer to that question. With the knowledge that Comstar is willing to decimate our worlds in violation of the Ares Convention, I say to you Captain General, you cannot side with them. None of us can! There can no longer be an option of indifference for anyone who has to look their people in the face after seeing the devastation of Northwind and say there was anything that could justify Comstar's actions. We did not become the Great Houses of the Inner Sphere by submitting to pressure. We became the Great Houses by excelling despite it!

The Precentors claimed that their Primus ordered the assassination of my Sister, who was the Chancellor at the time of her Death, and that it was a rogue action. Who can they, who will they, blame this upon? The ComGuard is formidable and at one time I thought their resources were limited, but as more and more information comes to light, it appears that they are prepared to dominate more than the few worlds in the small arena we thought they would claim. We have spent centuries building up our forces, challenging each other and becoming the better for it. The further they spread out from Terra, the more diluted their forces will become, but as they push out they will have access to their hidden supply bases to build off of.

More pressing than the ComGuard Regiments though are two major obstacles. One, the impending blackouts that will arise once a House officially declares forces against them. Interdiction is not a possibility, it is a certainty. I suspect however that they will not open with this option as they will not want to ostracize everyone at once. They will want to keep income coming in any way they can until they move officially against us. Because of this, we must either all declare against them or fight a delaying war waiting for Kerensky's people to come back and pray that we can sway them to our cause. None of my people were present at the Conference on Terra for obvious reasons, but if they seem to think Kerensky's peoples return is a certainty and fear it, there is a chance that we can count on them to reclaim the posts they once held as the Galaxy's protectorate.

The second obstacle is the naval blockades that they can bring to bear. With the truce in place, we can discuss more openly the plans started by the Draconis Combine, who was a clear leader in the Concord of Kaptyen which helped to preserve my own realm and better the lives of our people in more than just one way. They have found that the Comstar fleet is not yet as mighty as it could be. They still have ships in storage that they can rearm and bring to bear against us and hidden stations with massive docks that can keep producing more. Thanks to the foresight of my ancestors, a fully functioning mobile shipyard has been reactivated to service a small fleet of antiquated vessels we've been able to recover from the pages of history, and Comstar's own stockpiles. While they are serviceable, they would not stand up against a determined Comstar Fleet. There is no other cause at this point with more urgency than this. I ask that all leaders of the Inner Sphere be prepared to commit any ships they have uncovered as well.

Because none of my people were present on Terra, I did not know where the real threat lay, which is why I have been relying heavily on the missives that the Coordinator has been providing us. To date, he has not steered us wrong. It is our proposal then to try and halt Comstar's ability to rearm their fleet and to commandeer as many of their ships as we can from their stockpiles. Unless another plan is brought forth, acting swiftly to consolidation of resources seems to be the only way I can see this working and would be necessary in order to stop Comstar

I know little good has ever been said of the General Kerensky's decision to abandon us in our time of need. His people's absence and indecision to commit to a new leader allowed the succession wars to become what they were, but if his people's return can herald the rise of a new Star League, it might be better than the panic and anarchy that will spread if Comstar shuts us all down and we face a Galaxy gone silent from a complete interdiction. If they have their way, there will be a new Dark Age.

The ISDF seeded itself out of necessity. I was preparing to propose that we feed their forces with our own.  As I stated, we began earmarking forces for use by the ad hoc ISDF created by the Highlanders. Ships, men, resources, all have been sent core ward to further the idea. The Coordinator sent out the call to meet and set up structure for the ISDF. We have a united purpose for the first time in a long, long time. While, the mere of thought having to say this escalates my hopes, I knew that we could not claim to be a new Star League without the League's support or a definitive leader.

I was ready to propose at the St. Ives convention that from within our own houses we could create Temporary Leadership in support of the ISDF with Coordinator Theodore Kurita at the head for his acts of leadership. The Coordinator was the first one to come to mind as he has been stingy with neither resources, manpower or information and has proved the willingness to assisted his allies as well as recognized the threats to his realm as well as our galaxy while still having the time to better his people and other abroad, but as of today I cannot support his bid for leadership anymore then the continued pursuit of the expansion of the ISDF, because I was wrong, because as of this day, we DO have a chance to rebuild the Star League.

I beseech for all that would have supported the ISDF to instead support the rebirth of the Star League. Even the Captain General cannot deny the need for it and as of this moment we can avoid all of the succession claims that have prevented us from naming a successor to date. We can rebuild the Star League, not with one of us at its head but with a true genuine heir of Cameron Legacy because as of today it is my honor to report to you all that the ship carrying Amanda Cameron and her mother Elise Graham-Cameron has been found, lost in the recesses of space! Floating in Cryo-sleep for centuries in her arms of her mother, the retinue of guards that protected them until their dying breaths floating about them, the wife and daughter of Richard Cameron ... are alive.

I have not spoken to them personally, but I can confirm that both of them have so far survived the resuscitation process and are in as good of health as someone awaking nearly three centuries of sleep can be. I am hopeful that they will both recover fully and ask that for the aforementioned reasons that we recreate the Star League and reinstate High Council to guide Elise Cameron as Regent. As long as we can keep them safe Elise has vowed that she is willing to accept the mantle of leadership until her daughter is of age.

Amanda's right to succession is unquestionable! So if you support her right to rule as I do, we can put past us these wasteful succession wars and enter a new Era of Rebirth before Comstar can bring us to total darkness. To make it official, let it be known that I, Candace Allard-Liao, Chancellor of the Capellan Confederation on behalf of my people, do hereby acknowledge the right of Amanda Cameron to succeed her family as the rightful heir of the Star League. I also promise that we shall assist in the defense of the ideals of the Star League in order to maintain galactic peace and security for all.
