[RP/MM] Turn 41: Pandora Operations 2117 *COMPLETE*

Out from Fort Regan came the entirety of the 5th and 8th Lyran Regulars RCTs -- with a message.  "Attention, people of Pandora!  Attention, people of Pandora!  This is Lieutenant-General Cynthia Nelson of the Rim Republican Army.  The Arc Royal Estates-General is not the legal government of the Lyran Commonwealth.  The RRA is taking control of this world to protect it from Clan invasion and the anarchy of civil war as a protective measure until the ascension of Archon Robert Steiner has gone into effect and he is able to resume rulership.  Do not resist.  This is for your own safety."


OOC:

The two RCTs are on orders to take control of the world against any non-Skye opposition.  In the face of Skye-flagged units, they will withdraw.

"People of Pandora, this is Yuri Radovic of the 3rd Royal Guards. The soldiers of the 5th and 8th Guards have decided that in order to avoid civil war, they need to start one. They seem to be willing to kill several regiments worth of soldiers who stand against the clans in order to improve our defenses against them. They are traitors and are to be resisted. I call upon the soldiers of these units to reject the folly of their leaders and to take up their posts once again against the clan menace instead of sending this world down a certain path to perdition."

Shortly following Otonashi's message was a transmission from the enormous Leviathan II battleship hovering a few hundred thousand kilometers from the planet.

"Lyran and Rim Worlds forces, this is Admiral Thomas Dunn commanding Sarah McEvedy. We will not tolerate any disruption of our operations in this star system. Settle your differences peaceably, or be prepared to reap the consequences."

"Well, 'Rim-Worlders,' if that's what you fancy yourselves these days, I'm going to make you an offer. Get back to your posts, continue defensive preparations against the clans and keep quiet. Comply, and we can forget about this whole thing until this world is secure. I'm not looking for fights that don't involve killing vat-born lunatics, and I'm not about to diminish my dreams to teach you idiots a lesson if I can avoid it."

Brigadier Jeanine Castro looked at Cythnia Nelson.  "Well? Your call, boss."

Nelson snorted.  "You're such a chicken-shit, Jeanine.  Hmmm.  If we stir this up, not only will we have a serious fight on our hands, but that's a Terran battleship up there and they don't seem very happy.  I'm inclined to leave."

Castro brightened.  "I agree wholeheartedly."


OOC:

All RWR forces are retreating to their cantonments and loading aboard their DropShips so that they can boost off-world and withdraw.  Any attempts to stop them with physical force will, of course, result in them firing in self-defense.

Shortly after the RWR forces began to withdraw, a transmission from Radovic was sent on an open frequency.

"Miserable craven bastards of the 5th and the 8th Lyran Regulars, whatever happened to protecting the world against the clans? You don't get to shoot your own countrymen, so you'd rather slink off in the middle of the night than fight the enemy that threatens all of the Inner Sphere? I'll have you know that anyone who flees this world is getting labeled a deserter; I heartily encourage any sensible warriors who remain in these units to stay planetside; I'll see personally that you're excused for your indiscretion."

Transmission from THS Sarah McEvedy to Yuri Radovich's command post:

"Colonel Radovich, this is Dunn. I see your Rim Worlder problem has gone away. Am I going to have to put up with any more crap from you Lyrans, or can I get back to protecting you all from the Clans?"

"Admiral Dunn, unlike our craven friends, I have no desire to shoot at my countrymen whether they fashion themselves current or former. The Lyran contingent is committed to defending this world against the Clans. To be direct with you, neither my command nor I cares much for any brewing civil war - Arc Royal at least understands that killing our brothers and sisters isn't going to help any of us in the long run, so we take our orders from them. I can't say for sure that we won't have any uninvited separatist guests in the future, but I'll be damned if my men or I go seeking them out."

"I'm glad to hear that, Colonel. I have a suspicion that we haven't seen the last of-"

Admiral Dunn is interrupted by another voice,

"Admiral, priority HPG transmission from Koniz. Clan naval forces entering the system on attack vectors."

Dunn, apparently no longer paying any attention to Radovich, shot back, "Alert all commands, jump stations. I need a laser link to Admiral Otonashi, if you please..."

A few minutes later, TH forces began disappearing into hyperspace...

Minutes after the Terrans had jumped, two Combine Battle Groups winked out of existence.

"Hatter Six, Wolverine Six."

"Hatter Six, go."

"All green forces just jumped out-system.  Do we turn around and burn back ground-side?"

"Negative, Wolverine Six.  Those are Royals down there, and Leonidas is going to need every Spartan he get his hands on."

"Hmph.  Into the valley of death rode the Three Hundred, and all that."

"That's six hundred and and the wrong war, Castro.  Hell, wrong damn millenium."

"Roger that, Hatter.  See you on the flip side."

Fires were being put out on the bridge. The small Star Captain, coughing, barked: "Report!"

A CommTech was feverishly rigging his console and then screaming at him: "By Kerensky, we are lucky that we are still alive! Solar Sail has popped free, we must jump as fast as possible if we want to make it out alive!"

Star Captain Festus nodded absently. This system seemed to be cursed. They were lucky if this ship would jump them away..
