Spoken like a true dictator   ;)  I'll second Hugin as XO!!

As an aside, do we have to stick with canon mechs, or can we have a custom.

ie.... custom Jenner IIC.   4x Clan ERML, TC and max armour.

Thanks mate.

So for the parameters, I take it we are looking at a combined arms unit then.  Which I for one, am more than happy with.  Any idea on size?

And has any thought been gone into a background for it, because a lot of merc units do have an origin from one of the great Houses, even if that gets diluted with every passing year.  Cheers.

I've got so many favourite type characters, I don't know which one to go with  :(

I think I'll refine my choice as we approach kick-off and see what everyone is coming up with.  Anyone heard from DK as it's his idea after all?

BTW... do we only have one character each, or can we have a couple.

I'm sort of interested.  What time period is it set in do you know?  And is it all just about mechs, or would there be ASF, armour and PBI?

Any chance of getting GWA involved?  Even though he played a damn Marian in a previous FGC game, his RP was truly excellent.

"And yet, Mr Ambassador, the Combine does not ask of the Federated Commonwealth the obvious question."

Minister paused for a moment, his fingers slowly thrumming on top of the desk.

"The position of the Draconis Combine is disappointing however I wish you the joy of the day Sir.  My Chief of Staff would be honoured to escort you on your return to your Embassy."

A few days after the presentation of this letter Ambassador Wakahisa is invited to meet with Minister Allard.  Passed straight through the myriad of security, Justin meet the Kuritan Ambassador in the corridor before walking with him into his office.

"I must admit Ambassador, your letter took us by surprise.  Yes, your assumptions in regards Clan Star Adder are at least partly correct in that they approached us through an intermediary several months ago at roughly the same time they first made their presence known in the periphery.  The gist of that and the follow up meeting was about what every Clan wants.  To get to Terra first, defeat Comstar and therefore be declared the ilClan.  Given they made no demands on Federated Commonwealth territory, at least at this time, we have agreed to allow them transit.  From what we know, and we were informed of, we were expecting their fleet and accompanying ground force to continue on towards Terra."

INN News Service relaying from Tharkad, Federated Commonwealth.

Picture begins of a rather large briefing room, and quickly sees the arrival of a face familiar to all Lyrans and much of the rest of known space.

"People of the Federated Commonwealth.  Citizens of the Inner Sphere and Periphery.  Descendants of General Kerensky's Star League Defence Force.  I will make this brief."

"Regent Townshed-Davion and I have jointly arrived at the decision to summarily terminate the reliance of the Federated Commonwealth on the HPG network as run by Comstar.  This message will simultaneously be released within the Federated Suns region and will be the last messages transmitted.  Alternate means of interstellar communications are now available, and the means to do so have been forwarded to all planetary governments.  Business will remain open.  Companies and private individuals will still be able to communicate."

"This is not a decision made lightly, but considering the hostile nature of the leadership of Comstar, coupled with their indiscriminate abuse of the Ares Convention seen on both Northwind and Outreach, and with their abduction, torture and murder of a number of diplomatic personnel on Outreach and Terra, we will no longer give financial sustenance to their evil.  Comstar will no longer be able to utilise the income generated by our use of the HPG network for their terrorist ways."

"Planetary governors have also been given orders to cordon off the HPG compounds on their planets.  These HPG compounds forthwith have lost any diplomatic status. All Comstar personnel will be invited to exit their compound in an orderly manner and will be received by AFFC forces.  You can call it detention if you like, but for the interim, they will be interned until such time as those who wish to return to Terra are able to do so safely under our arrangements.  Those who desire to leave that organisation and resettle elsewhere will be catered for, once appropriate security checks and arrangements are undertaken."

"For those who remain inside their compound once the offer to leave has expired?  Well, they have made their decision.  I've lost patience with these bastards, and they will burn here in the present, and in whatever hell they descend to in the afterlife.  That is all."

"Sir."

Brigadier Hans Gneisenau stopped reading the latest report on his screen and looked up as his aide, one Captain Isabelle Giovanni, entered his office.  A rather opulent office, considering his position as Chief of Staff to Marshal Vanessa Bisla, Addicks Command CO.  He personally preferred something a little more spartan, but given his current job, and the need to speak to some fairly high ranking visitors on occasion, he had to put up with it.

"Yes Isabelle."

"We have just received word from Formalhaut, Sir.  The world is ours again, with the robes putting up no resistance.  Nothing at all apparently."

"I see.  Ensure Colonel Durnford is informed then that his own operation is now on.  We won't wait to get the final go ahead from the Marshal, as she has already notified me that New Avalon, and Tharkad for that matter, has sponsored this.  Which no doubt is why the good Colonel also has charge of a couple of hundred civilian specialists as well!"

New Syrtis Algonquin Military Area
Capellan March
Apr 3043

"In summary Sir, we have the Syrtis Fusiliers here for another nine days before they rotate out, then a week after that the Light Guards arrive for a three week training mission."

"And in May and June?" responded Colonel Marco Tchapko, CO of the AMA, to his aide.  Tchapko was ultimately responsible for ensuring the Area was available and fully active to receive the next unit rotating in to use it, a task made considerably more difficult given the turmoil in the deep periphery and the extra training directives coming from Planetary Command.  He himself had never seen as many units of the AFFS on one world in his thirty year career.

"The Guards exercise will overlap into May of course, but only for the first ten days.  The rest of the month is currently free, and we have informed HQ that we will need that time to refurbish a number of the firing ranges following heavy usage, as well as a number of other activities.  They have given tacit approval to this, but has warned that come June, we should expect a fresh unit."

"Mmmmm.  And what about money?   Have we received the extra funding we've asked for?" One of Tchapko's major headaches was that the funding given to him to maintain the AMA had been based on a semi-peacetime operational level.  It cost money to replace targets, refurbish areas dispoiled by 80 ton Mechs churning up the place, and the myriad of electronic training aids needed constant maintenance.  His budget for the year was just about exhausted, and despite a number of submissions to HQ asking for a supplementary amount, nothing had been forthcoming.

"Nothing confirmed yet, Sir.  However I spoke with Captain LaFoyle this morning and she told me that there is a finance meeting tomorrow afternoon.  She owed me a favour, so our submission will definitely be one of the points raised."

"Good.  Stay on her case and inform me as soon as you hear something.  Without that funding we are screwed.  HQ knows it just as much as us, so if they want this extra training done, especially in this Clan style, they need to cough up the cash."

Koniz Command Region
Sudeten Logistics Group

Only just finishing overseeing the expansion of her base area following the forced acquisition of a further twenty acres of land, Kommandant Antigone Mallard found herself once again on the hop as news arrived of a further AFFC regiment due on planet in two days time.

Though definitely only a staging area for the regiments, supplies and personnel moving into the Wotan Command area for operations against the Rimmers, that Sudeten would be used as a logistics node for the onforwarding of the aforementioned assets, was a given.  She was thankful that those opportunistic wankers across the border had given the entire Theatre a wake up call a little over a year ago.  The mistakes made then had been ironed out so that with a real threat now to the sovereignty of the Federated Commonwealth, the logistics flow was running a lot more smoothly.  Which on some days meant not as many snafu's as usual.

"Ma'am.  We have another one."

Lieutenant Skye McIntosh was on her fourth straight day of Duty Officer for the Regiment, courtesy of an infraction in a recent field exercise that had caught the Adjutants eye.  With only three days to go until one of her cohorts took over, she welcomed the news over the insufferable pile of forms that still waited her action.

"Who and where from this time, Corporal?"

"A mechjock Ma'am.  Young guy. From Group W.  Claims to be a Rutger Becker.  Shot out of his 'Mech early on in the piece, and before being overrun by Waco and his pirates, was whisked away by a couple of locals who headed up into the hills.  Probably just as well, as it looks as though he had a broken leg so he wasn't go to get very far on his lonesome."

"I see.  Have you checked the database?"

"Yes Ma'am.  And there is a record of a Mechwarrior Rutger Becker in Group W's second battalion.  And a bit more.  The kid is supposed to be some sort of relative of the CO."

At that last bit of news, McIntosh's eyebrow raised ever so slightly.  They had had exactly three survivors of the units that had fought under the command of the Archon come in to report since the regiment landed on Outreach.  She had heard that the Dragoons had recovered several, but since they had combat dropped several months ago, she was not surprised.  Still, the pitiful number of survivors was extremely low, confirming the slaughter inflicted on the defending force by Comstar.  Either during the battle or following, as Comstar executed those it found.

The Colonel would need to know this as well as the AFFC Liaison Officer.  With tests done to obviously determine whether or not the young man waiting outside was indeed who he was.

Next came a question from a reporter employed by one of the major Lyran news agencies.  "What of
Northwind and Outreach?  Does Comstar fully acknowledge the atrocities enacted on these two worlds by units of the ComGuards and which therefore must have been carried out on the orders of the Orders hierarchy, and what reparations will Comstar offer to the survivors so that may mourn and rebuild their worlds?  And indeed, if Comstar does admit guilt in these acts which go contrary to the Ares Convention, what then does that mean for the Federated Commonwealth, as we here see no indication of any peace deal being struck here today between that realm and your Order?"

"From everything I've read from our archives, it would seem that the Federated Suns/Magistracy of Canopus relationship has most often been reasonably amiable.  It is just the distance between the two realms, that has been the main limiting factor but a relationship that has seen improvement in recent times though.  Obviously a different situation with the Taurian Concordant covering a number of centuries which given the times we live in, should be addressed.  But I digress.  Please, Mr Kurita-Calderon, continue."

... next day.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

"Good morning Ashanti.  Mr Kurita-Calderon," offered Olivia Fenlon as she rose from her chair upon the arrival of the PACT representatives.  "I trust you and your entourages slept well, especially after so long in space, as although this is my first trip to Jaipur, the weather and the views," as she paused to look out the huge French windows at the vast mountain range in the middle distance, "has certainly helped my own disjointed sleep patterns."  Responses offered, and some more neutral exchanges allowed a measure of informality before the start of proceedings.

"So.  The Federated Commonwealth would like to firstly acknowledge the assistance we have received from Crimson City in recent times.  One would expect that any exchange would have been the exact opposite of what has occurred, however this is not the case in this instance and therefore I would like to extend the thanks of my nation to you Ashanti."
