General Wei Lang considered his options. A Clan naval star was preparing to bombard the planet, and erase the SLDF presence on Hinckley, and he doubted there was anything that could be done about it. He considered attempting to issue a trial, but he wasn't versed well enough in the Clan ways to try it. He turned to his communications officer.

"Get me a link to the Clan fleet. I'll not have our boys die without defending themselves."

"Clan flagship, this is General Wei Lang, Capellan Empire 5th Imperial Reserve Cavalry, flying SLDF colors. I have no desire to be bombed from orbit, unable to defend myself. We will surrender, under the condition that you allow us to leave unmolested. I am willing to Trial for the right to leave. I await your response."

His Com officer stared at him in disbelief.
"Sir, arn't you worried about what the SLDF commander is going to say about this? We could be tried for desertion!"

"We'll worry about that when it happens Lieutenant. I've faith that Zhan will support my decision, he won't look down on us for preserving our strength. What would be gained by staying and being glassed from orbit? We wouldn't be doing anyone any good, except for giving the Clanners some target practice. Better to run and live to fight another day. Have the men prepare their machines, for either eventuality."
